Your presence like music

musical notes

Do you know someone who simply invites you to be who you are? Someone who is so real and open that their being who they are is simply a wonderful invitation for you to be who you are? This poem is about an inspiring coworker I had the honor to collaborate with years ago. She was a talented and inspiring poet that create the possibility for me, possibility of expressing myself through words, through poetry.

Like Music

By Vicki L. Flaherty

Gracefully dancing into my life

Something pulls me to you

Your presence like music

Your words like a song

You touch me

Your power like the beat of a drum

Your grace like notes hanging in the air

I feel you reaching me

A resounding instrument

Your notes lead me

And, I discover

Who I want to be

About Vicki L Flaherty

I am most alive when I am creating, whether through my writing, gardening, photography, or my work. Running and yoga enrich my being. I am happiest when I’m with my husband Jim. Travel opens me to new possibilities and greater awareness. I find a special joy in helping people succeed. I’ve done something valuable when I’ve helped a colleague or friend see their brilliance and express their full potential. I have awesome opportunities to do this as an industrial/organizational psychologist through leadership, mentoring, coaching, career and other talent programs. As I've focused on living more mindfully, I've found special joy in expressing myself through poetry and photography, and in truly being in relationship with those I meet along my journey.

  1. What an awesome poem! I love the metaphors – it’s beautiful, Vicki, and reminds me yet again how amazing you are – I hope you realize you have “paid this gift forward” 1000 times?
