I wrote the poem in this post for my husband. Now, as I reflect upon it, I can see how it might have taken root in my own need to hear the message. I am not sure why seeing, and believing, in our own light is so difficult. As my friend over at The Presents of Presence likes to say: SHINE ON!

The Light
By Vicki L. Flaherty

There is a light
An amazing and powerful light
That shines in daylight and darkness

The energy impacts with its mere presence
And dazzlingly so when its flame is full

Its glow reaches into the shadows
To illuminate and inspire
Filling space and time with warmth

To catch a spark, all it needs is
Belief in its inherent strength
Faith that its sole purpose is to shine

And most of all
A desire to glow brightly

The light is you

About Vicki L Flaherty

I am most alive when I am creating, whether through my writing, gardening, photography, or my work. Running and yoga enrich my being. I am happiest when I’m with my husband Jim. Travel opens me to new possibilities and greater awareness. I find a special joy in helping people succeed. I’ve done something valuable when I’ve helped a colleague or friend see their brilliance and express their full potential. I have awesome opportunities to do this as an industrial/organizational psychologist through leadership, mentoring, coaching, career and other talent programs. As I've focused on living more mindfully, I've found special joy in expressing myself through poetry and photography, and in truly being in relationship with those I meet along my journey.

  1. Does your husband just about die when he gets poetry from you? I cannot imagine how special that must make him feel…. But then again, look at the company he keeps… 😉 Beautiful stuff, beautiful image!
